Calgary, AB (March 21st, 2019) – The number of Albertans receiving federal employment insurance has climbed for a third consecutive month, according to new numbers from Statistics Canada released this morning for the month of January.
Alberta had over 50,000 employment insurance beneficiaries in January, a rise of 4.3% from December.
“The NDP have failed Albertans on jobs with a series of damaging policies that discouraged job creation and investment in our province,” said Ric McIver, United Conservative re-election candidate for Calgary-Hays. “While the NDP are desperate to talk about anything but their record, United Conservatives are putting forward a plan to reignite our economy and get Albertans working again.”
This follows recent news that Alberta has the highest unemployment of any province outside of Atlantic Canada, with Calgary and Edmonton having two of the highest unemployment rates among major Canadian cities.
In the last four months alone, Alberta has lost 48,000 full-time jobs.
