Today, the NDP announced $90 million to address surgery wait times – but after four years of NDP government, wait times for surgeries have been increasing while health spending has gone up.
It’s clear that the NDP haven’t focused on actual outcomes. Here’s what the government’s own documents show, from last summer’s Alberta Health Services annual report:
After four years of NDP management:
Open heart surgery wait times increased by nearly 50 per cent, from 14.9 weeks to 22.2 weeks.
Cataract surgery wait times increased by nearly 30 per cent, from 29.9 weeks to 38.4 weeks.
Hip replacement wait times increased by nearly 30 per cent, from 28.7 weeks to 36.7 weeks.
Knee replacement wait times increased by 23 per cent, from 33 weeks to 40.7 weeks.
Three years ago, NDP Health Minister Sarah Hoffman claimed, “We simply cannot continue increasing spending on health care in this province the way we have done in the past.”
United Conservative leader Jason Kenney spoke out about the unacceptable increase in health wait times recently and announced a Health Care Guarantee. Click here to learn more.
